An appeal from the New Jersey region of the American Jewish Congress for a change in the statewide primary election date, which coincides with the first day of Passover, was rejected today by legislative officials as presenting too many “practical difficulties.”
D. Beryl Manischewitz, president of the region, said the officials had been asked to consider an amendment of the state absentee voting law, which allows for such voting by persons who are ill or in military service, to cover voters barred by religious conviction from voting on a particular occasion.
