Condemning the policy of the former Polish Government, the Joint Foreign Committee declared in a report to the Board of Deputies of British Jews that “the great problem of the new Poland is to be democratic, just and humane.”

“Beck’s anti-Semitic policy failed miserably,” the report said. “It was utterly wrong to believe that what was bad for the Jews was good for Poland and it was utterly wrong to make compulsory emigration from Poland a central item of the Government’s program. Poland’s place is among the democracies. The new Poland must upbuild her internal life on the same principles as those of the democracies–the principles of freedom and civil equality.”

Discussing the Polish question, the Rev. Maurice L. Perlzweig declared at Sunday’s board meeting: “Under no circumstances are we prepared to accept a settlement not putting beyond the possibility of doubt full reestablishments of the rights of the Jewish population of Poland.”
