Correspondence between two kings dating back to the time of Jeremiah, 700 B. C., was discovered today by the archeological expedition led by Prof. Starkey at Tel Ad-Dueweir, ancient Lachish.
The discovery consists of twelve ostraka (pottery) fragments which are taken to be an exchange of secret letters between the Kingdom of Judea and the Kingdom of Babylon or Egypt. The fragments carry inscriptions with Biblical spelling, all written in ink. The scripts are amazingly well preserved.
Details of the find were made known to the Palestine government, but have not been given out as yet to the press. Prof. Starkey expects to unearth more fragments in other sites shortly to be excavated.
