A new road will be constructed to the settlement of Elon Moreh on Jabel Kabir near Nablus, despite the opposition of Attorney General Yitzhak Zamir.
Zamir recently submitted a memorandum to the government opposing the rood since it would pass through the cultivated land of an Arab village which would have to be expropriated. He thus wanted to avoid yet another case in which the government would lose in court, if the Arab villagers challenged the security necessity of the new rood.
But Agriculture Minister Ariel Sharon, chairman of the Ministerial Settlement Committee, argued that the new rood would serve all the residents of the area, including the Arabs. The issue was referred to a special committee under Deputy Premier Yigael Yadin and finally to the Defense Ministry which expressed its approval
