The fourth volume of the History of the Jews in the Orient and Turkey, written in Hebrew by the historian Saloman Avram Rosanes, has just been published here. It runs to 520 pages and deals with the epoch between 1640 and 1730. A great deal of attention is given in the volume to the false Messiah, Sabatei Zvi, and his prophet, Nathan of Gaza.
The history of Palestine during this period is dealt with fully. The fate of the followers of Sabatei Zvi who afterward adopted Islam and became the Danneh Sect is followed up. Other chapters deal with the last days of Budapest under Turkish rule, and the conquest of the city by the Austrians.
There are chapters on the Jews in Egypt and on the Jewish printing houses in Turkey. There are also chapters on the history of the Jews in Bulgaria, Serbia and Macedonia.
