Agreement to merge the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies of New York City and the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities into a single organization, making possible broader, more integrated and more effective meeting of Jewish welfare needs of the greater city, was announced last night.
The announcement came in a joint statement issued by George Z. Medalie, president of the New York Federation, and Michael G. Appel, president of the Brooklyn Federation. The merger will create the largest single philanthropic structure in the world. Included in the new set-up will be the 91 institutions of the New York Federation and the 25 constituent agencies of the Brooklyn Federation, which together have a record of serving each year more than 300,000 men, women and children.
