The formation of a Committee on Intergroup Relations of the New York chapter of the American Jewish Committee was announced here night at the annual meeting of the local group. The committee, which replaces the chapter’s Committee on Unity, will work in cooperation with local groups “to improve community attitudes and activities with respect to local racial and religious milarities” and to undertake defense against discrimination.
Irving M. Engel was elected chairman of the chapter to succeed Ralph E. Sampel, while Col. Harold Riegelman was named chairman of the executive committee. Ther officers are: honorary chairmen, Samuel D. Leidesdorf and Mr. Samuel; vice-chairmen, Emil N. Baer, Herbert W. Haldenstein and Mrs. Leopold K. Simon; treasurer, gnold S. Askin; secretary, Mrs. Alfred R. Bachrach.
