The Jewish Welfare Board has issued a publication containing suggested programs and material in prose and verse, for the observance May 21 of Lag Ba’Omer, the Scholars’ Festival, which marks the anniversary of the revolt of Jews in ancient Palestine against the tyrannic rule of the Roman Empire under the leadership of Bar Kochba.
Three hundred Jewish school teachers have enrolled as volunteers in the effort to raise $25,000 from among the educators of Greater New York towards the $1,250,000 fund which is being raised in the Metropolitan area by the United Jewish Appeal for the aid of Jews in Germany and other lands and for their settlement in Palestine.
All chapters of the Greater New York Mizrachi Women’s Organization are concentrating their efforts toward the success of the $10 Give-or-get luncheon. Mrs. B. J. Goldstein and Mrs. M. J. Fischman are chairmen of the affair.
The liquor and wine division of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities has set up an apparatus for intensive participation in the Federation’s Spring campaign for $543,500, with George Goldstein as chairman.
