New York City Council Urges U.S. Government to Insure Israel’s Borders

New York’s City Council, the legislative body of the Municipality, adopted unanimously today a resolution supporting Israel, The resolution, which the Council decided to send to President Johnson, United Nations Secretary-General U Thant and Israel’s Prime Minister Levi Eshkol. urged the President of the United States “immediately to reaffirm publicly to the world and in the United Nations that the United States of America will honor in all ways necessary its commitment to insure the borders of the State of Israel and the international character of the waters of the Gulf of Akaba, the Straits of Tiran and the Red Sea.”

Another resolution designated next Sunday as “Salute to Israel Parade Day.” Plans are under way in New York for a massive parade to be held Sunday, on Riverside Drive. It is expected that 25,000 persons will participate. Included among the expected marchers will be Zionist youth organizations, students and members of other youth movements, Jewish members of the New York police force, and many others.
