A week-long dedication of a new $1,500,000 temple started today by the Reform congregation Shaaray Tefila once known as the West End Synagogue.Governor Nelson Rockefeller and Mayor Robert Wagner participated in the opening service.
The congregation, which is more than 100 years old, was founded as an Orthodox group, but in 1879 it voted to abandon Orthodoxy in favor of Reform Judaism. During the last nine months that the new temple was under construction, the congregation conducted its worshipping in a Unitarian church.
