Declaring that “today discrimination in employment by reason of color, creed or national origin is at an all-time low in New York State,” Governor Thomas E. Dewey yesterday named a new twenty-five-member committee to guard minority rights and to deal “vigorously” with the problem.
The new non-salaried committee is headed by Dr. Alvin Johnson, director of the New School for Social Research in New York. The original committee appointed by former Governor Lehman was headed by Frieda S. Miller, then State Industrial Commissioner. The Jewish members of the new committee include Dr. Sidney S. Goldstein of the Free Synagogue and Joseph C. Hyman of the Joint Distribution Committee.
