A record goal of $22,500,000 was set today by the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, which opened its 44th annual maintenance appeal. Fifteen thousand volunteer fund-raisers are participating in the campaign on behalf of Federation’s 116 affiliated agencies, now serving almost 800,000 New Yorkers of all races and faiths, it was announced by Joseph L, Mailman, chairman of the drive.
The year’s maintenance appeal, topping last year’s Federation campaign by $3,500,000, is being conducted simultaneously with a three-year capital funds drive for $104,365,000. The maintenance appeal is for funds needed to pay day-to-day operating costs of Federation’s network of hospitals, social service and recreation agencies, constituting the largest group of private community service agencies in the United States.
