Over 2,000 Jewish leaders in the New York area and representatives of benevolent and fraternal organizations yesterday pledged to raise $5, 000,000 for the aid of Jewish children abroad at an emergency meeting of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York.
The principal speaker at the session was Dr. Jorge Garcia Granados, Guatemalan Ambassador to the U.S. and his country’s representative on the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine, who spoke of his experiences while traveling with the U.N. unit in Palestine. The diplomat denounced the autocratic rule of the Palestine Government and stated flatly that the “case of the Jews was stronger than that of the Arabs.” A number of first-hand reports of conditions among the Jews abroad were also delivered at the meeting.
