ASSERTING THAT REGARDLESS OF POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS THAT MAY OCCUR IN PALESTINE, THE JEWISH PEOPLE “WILL NOT FORSAKE THEIR DREAM OF RECREATING IN PALESTINE A HOME WHERE JEWS MAY BUILD FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR CHILDREN A FUTURE OF PEACE AND FREEDOM,” THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE COUNCIL OF JEWISH ORGANIZATIONS FOR PALESTINE, AT THE HOTEL ASTOR ATTENDED BY DELEGATES FROM 600 ORGANIZATIONS, UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED A RESOLUTION URGING NEW YORK JEWRY TO RAISE $2,000,000, FOR THE UNITED PALESTINE APPEAL IN 1938.
SPEAKERS INCLUDED DR. STEPHEN S. WISE, LOUIS LIPSKY, JUDGE FERDINAND PECORA, HARRY H. LIEBOVITZ, BERNARD SEMEL AND JONAH J. GOLDSTEIN.
JUDGE PECORA DECLARED, “FOR THE NATIONS OF THE WORLD TO REMAIN INDIFFERENT TO THE AIMS OF THE JEWS IN THE REBUILDING OF PALESTINE IS TANTAMOUNT TO A CONFESSION OF MORAL BANKRUPTCY AND LACK OF FAITH.”
