Mayor Robert F. Wagner issued a proclamation today, designating tomorrow as “Israel Independence Day. ” In his proclamation, the Mayor called on all New Yorkers to join in the celebration of the eleventh anniversary of Israel’s independence.
Tonight, the American Zionist Council observed the independence anniversary of Israel at a reception here, attended by more than 400 Zionist leaders from the New York area. The reception served, at the same time, as a farewell to Israel’s Ambassador, Abba Eban. Speakers at the reception included Rabbi Irving Miller, chairman of the Council; Mrs. Samuel W. Halprin, acting chairman of the Jewish Agency; Michael Field, chairman of the Zionist Youth Council; and Mr. Eban.
