Mayor Robert F. Wagner today proclaimed April 21-27 as “Israel’s Tenth Anniversary Week,” and called for widespread participation in the “Salute to Freedom” celebrating Israel’s Tenth Anniversary which will be held at the Polo Grounds on April 27. The “Salute to Freedom” is being sponsored by the American Committee for Israel’s Tenth Anniversary Celebration, of which Senator Herbert H. Lehman is general chairman. The Mayor issued the proclamation for “Israel’s Tenth Anniversary Week” at a meeting at City Hall.
In his proclamation, Mayor Wagner termed Israel’s first decade a period of “inspiring progress.” He said that israel as a democracy is dedicated to the same ideals upon which the United States was founded. “Israel has remained a bastion of the free world in a turbulent area where it continues to fulfill its great and historic role of providing purposeful work, secure homes, and abiding hope to hundreds of thousands of refugees from persecution and intolerance,” the proclamation stresses.
