Chief Rabbi Moses Rosen of Rumania said today that New York Mayor John Lindsay had agreed to serve as a donor of a Jewish holy scroll from Rumania to the International Synagogue at John Kennedy Airport. Rabbi Rosen said he had met Mayor Lindsay at City Hall, and that he visited New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller at the latter’s New York City office.
The Chief Rabbi has arranged for the shipment of Torah scrolls from Rumanian synagogues destroyed by the Nazis to Israeli congregations. He said he would arrange for transfer of a scroll to Mayor Lindsay soon after he returns to Rumania, at the end of January.
Rabbi Rosen said both the Mayor and the Governor had asked him to extend their good wishes to the people of Rumania, including Rumanian Jewry.
