Graduate fellowships for the study of the Hebrew language and for the study of Hebrew culture and education will be offered at New York University for the 1963-64 academic year, it was announced here today by the university. Available to college graduates, the fellowships are offered under the National Defense Education Act and will enable recipients to work for the master of arts, doctor of philosophy, and doctor of education degrees. All fellowships provide free tuition at New York University.
Fellowships in the Hebrew language have been designed for students interested in pursuing college teaching careers or entering fields of government service for which a command of Hebrew is required. They provide $2,250 per year, plus $600 annually for each dependent, and may be renewed for a second and third year. Fellowships for the study of Hebrew culture and education are granted for three years, with amounts of $2,000 for the first year, $2,200 for the second, and $2,400 for the third, plus an allowance of $400 annually for each dependent.
