Members of twenty labor unions affiliated with the A.F.L. and C.I.O. today participated in a picket line demonstration in front of the British Consulate, protesting against the British policy in Palestine. The demonstration, which lasted for two hours, was called by the American Jewish Labor Council.
Forty prominent Americans, many associated with the American Christian Palestine Committee, today sent a message to the French Government expressing their “deep sense of gratification” at the manner in which France handled the Exodus refugees.
The telegram, addressed to Henri Bonnet, French Ambassador to the United States, declared that “it was in the richest traditions of the nation that gave to the world the democratic ideals of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity that homeless and dispirited wanderers were given such fair and noble treatment.” Among the signers of the wire were Sumner Welles, Bartley C. Crum, Fiorello LaGuardia, Dr. Walter C. Lowdermilk and Prof. Albert Einstein.
