The contribution of three modern paintings–valued at over $30,000–for the Helena Rubinstein Pavilion of Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv by Madame Rubinstein was announced today by Samuel Rubin, president of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation. The three paintings are Utrillo’s “Le Moulin de Lannois (Seine-et-Uise)” and “Montemarte,” both dated 1938, and the Portinari is a portrait of Madame Rubinstein, for which she sat in 1939.
The gift was made by Madame Rubinstein just prior to her leaving for Israel where she will dedicate the new $250,000 pavilion on January 22. The pavilion, made possible by a gift from Madame Rubinstein, is part of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation’s building program in Israel for cultural institutions. At a reception today Mr. Rubin accepted the paintings on behalf of the Tel Aviv museum. Joseph Tekoa, deputy permanent representative of the Israel Mission to the United Nations, on behalf of the Israel Government, thanked Madame Rubinstein for the gift.
