New York’s state Senate passed a new kosher law Monday. The law was made necessary when the state’s previous kosher law was declared unconstitutional after a lawsuit arguing that the state agency involved in kashrut — administered by Chasidic and other Orthodox Jews — had crossed the line from consumer oversight into unconstitutional religious entanglement.
