Referring to efforts now under way to settle Jews in Crimea, and Mexico, the new administration of the Zionist Organization of America, in a statement issued in connection with the first meeting of its National Executive Committee, questions the wisdom of settling Jews where they will be subject to the “whims and vicissitudes of countries over whose destiny they have no control.” The statement points out that for the past three months Jewish immigration into Palestine has exceeded a monthly average of 2000, and deplores the fact that “all Jewish forces do not combine for the development of Palestine as an immigration centre where, under the proper economic conditions, Jewish life can be stable and self-contained.”
In a review of the work of American Zionists during the previous year the statement which gives the record of the results achieved in the “financial, political and moral fields,” the sum of $3,090,000 was raised by the agencies affiliated with the movement during the past year. The increase of membership from 37,328 to 46,516 is also set down. An even larger program of work is contemplated for the coming year which began with the first meeting of the National Executive Committee.
