The Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Community Council of Essex County has been working continuously and closely over the summer with Catholic, Protestant, civic, labor, social welfare and other community groups to strengthen intergroup relations in Newark, Arnold Harris, CRC executive secretary, reported.
The groups, which have worked closely with Newark municipal authorities, including the Mayor and the Police Director, have sought to develop programs to lessen tensions and avert violence and disorders that have occurred in other communities, Mr. Harris explained. He said plans were being developed also to seek to prepare for the implementation of the newly passed Federal anti-poverty program in this city.
