While Newark schools will begin their sessions on Sept. 10, the first day of Rosh Hashonah, the absence of Jewish children from the public schools will be excused, Dr. John H. Logan, local superintendent of schools, informed Rabbi Joseph Konowitz.
In a letter to Dr. Logan, Rabbi Konowitz, president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis, had suggested postponement of the opening date, but educational authorities decided instead to excuse the absence of Jewish children.
