Fifty candidates were initiated this week into the Salem Lodge, No. 26, of B’nai B’rith.

The silver jubilee of Rabbi Benjamin A. Lichter in the rabbinate will be celebrated at the Schenley Hotel May 20. Out-of-town guests who are expected to attend include Dr. Cyrus Adler of Philadelphia, Prof. Mordecai M. Kaplan of New York, Dr. Israel H. Levinthal of Brooklyn and Dr. Raphael H. Melamed of Elizabeth, N. Y.

Dr. Emanuel Gamoran of Cincinnati, educational director of the Bureau of Jewish Education, spoke last night (Monday) on “Education—The Way for American Jews,” before the members of the Institute of Jewish Studies and the Jewish community in general at Lyman Hall, Syracuse, University.

The Intercollegiate Chapter Avukah of Richmond on May 5 will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Hebrew University in Palestine, it was announced by Dr. L. Karp.

The Jewish Information Bureau is compiling a list of synagogues located near the larger hotels and railway terminals of New York City, it was announced yesterday by Bernard G. Richards, director. Officers of congregations with temples in such neighborhoods are requested to send in their listings to the Bureau, 103 Park avenue.

The Young Israel Synagogue of Claremont Parkway, the Bronx, will give a farewell dinner to its president, Morris Propp, Sunday night at Yeshiva College. Mr. Propp sails for Palestine May 11.

A young people’s Palestine organization was formed in the Bronx at a meeting at the office of M. Maldwin Fertig, president of the Bronx Y. M. H. A. Meyer Levy was elected temporary chairman.

Dr. David Lvovitch, leader of the World “ORT” Organization which is organizing and readjusting Jews on farm work and artisanship will speak at a meeting of the American ORT tonight at the Pennsylvania Hotel.

The 115 boys and girls of the Meier Shefyah Children’s Village, near Haifa, Palestine, are elated over the arrival of a tractor, greeting it with a special celebration, according to communications received here by Junior Hadassah, which supports the childrens’ home-school as one of its three projects in Palestine.

Prior to reopening at new and larger quarters one block away at 23 East 56th street on Monday, May 6, Thrift House, the permanent rummage shop at 9 West 59th street, will be closed for the entire week of April 29, according to an announcement by its chairman, Mrs. Julius Ochs Adler.
