A Soviet newspaper published by the Central Committee of the Communist Party has criticized El Fatah, the Arab terrorist organization, and said its vow to destroy Israel was unrealistic.
The article in “Soviet Russia” expressed “mixed feelings of sympathy” for El Fatah but “some doubts about their methods of struggle.” It was the first time that Arab guerrillas have been even mildly criticized in an official Soviet organ. Although their activities have not received much publicity in Russia, the official position has been that Arab commandos are a legitimate popular resistance movement.
