The night curfew which has been in effect for 45, 000 Israeli Arabs living near a section of the Jordan border since 1949 was abolished last night on orders of Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, acting as Defense Minister.

The curfew had been in effect on an 80-mile strip along the border since the signing of the Israel-Jordan armistice agreement. Recently the curfew had been relaxed to apply only between 11 p.m. and 3 a. m.

The abolition order was in compliance with a decision of the Cabinet recently to liberalize military government in Arab-populated areas. The curfew was originally set up to facilitate measures to prevent Arab infiltration from Jordan. Mr. Ben-Gurion’s announcement was made on the eve of a feast marking the end of Ramadan, the Moslem month of fasting.
