Mayor William O’Dwyer today received the nine Israeli war heroes here on a tour of the U.S. in behalf of the United Jewish Appeal” at a City Hall ceremony. Immediately after the ceremony eight of the nine flew to various cities to board U.J.A. “Caravan of Hope” trains on which they will serve as honor guards. The ninth will leave this city with the New York caravan on Sunday afternoon.
Receiving the seven men end two women officers, Mayor O’Dwyer declared: “The Israeli soldiers are welcome messengers from our sister infant republic. Their very presence here represents an appeal which I am sure all will listen and respond to it pinpoints the great needs which must be met in bringing great masses of homeless Jews to Israel.”
