There is now nothing in the way of the organization of the extended Jewish Agency; it should be completed before the winter passes, declared Louis Lipsky, president of the Zionist Organization of America, in the first public statement made since his re-election in Pittsburgh. Upon his arrival in London from Berlin, Mr. Lipsky stated in an interview with the representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency:
“The General Council, by a vote of 41 to 4, strengthened the hands of the Zionist Executive and forged an important chain in the policy represented by the extended Jewish Agency. It performed the difficult task with genuine appreciation of Zionist responsibility.
“The resolution on the Agency adopted in Berlin clarifies the Zonist principles and paves the way for thorough and lasting understanding between Zionists and non-Zionists,” Mr. Lipsky continued. “With the exception of the adoption of the principle of settlers’ right to self-determination, conditional on economic soundness, the resolutions are interpretations of the fundamental principles adopted by the Zionist Congress, which have been the basis of the negotiations culminating in the appointment by Mr. Louis Marshall and Dr. Chaim Weizmann of the Non-Partisan Commission.
“The criticism offered of the report of the Survey Commission, which in frankness was unavoidable and which if not given would have raised misunderstanding later, was expressed with clarity, dignity and appreciation of the importance of the report.
“There is now nothing in the way of the organization of the extended Jewish Agency. It should be completed before the winter passes. Zionists owe it to themselves and the cause they represent to tackle their responsibilities with vigor unabated, in order that, during the sensitive period of completion of the new responsible Agency and when the Jewish Agency is finally set up, the Zionist Organization shall enter the new partnership with all Zionist forces consolidated, united in one purpose,” Mr. Lipsky declared.
