“A small gift of $5 from a society of young people in Fort Erie, Ontario, which they desire applied to the relief of Christian Jewish refugees in Europe,” was received Friday by The Jewish Daily Bulletin.
The contribution was enclosed in a letter which was signed “Agnes Scott Kent.” The address was 1201 Dorchester street, West, Montreal.
The communication requested this newspaper to forward the money and an enclosed letter to James G. McDonald, League of Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Coming from Germany. This desire was immediately complied with.
“The gift was sent to me for transmission,” the writer said, “in response to a quotation I had made from The Jewish Daily Bulletin to the effect that Mr. McDonald had deplored that ‘Christian groups, despite repeated appeals, have never contributed to the upkeep of the 15,000 Jewish Christian refugees.’
“It will be of interest to you, I am sure, to trace this bit of Bulletin result. Mr. McDonald’s report was read in Montreal, a quotation from it read in a little town in Ontario, and in response a sacrificial gift of $5 goes from boys and girls there to suffering Jews in Europe.
“May the good work go on!”
