Seven delegates to represent the non-Zionist Jews of Poland on the Council of the extended Jewish Agency for Palestine were elected here Sunday at an impressive conference held in the main hall of the Warsaw City Council.
Several hundred delegates, among whom were the elite of Polish Jewish society, attended the meeting. The conference was presided over by Dr. Samuel Goldflamm. The delegates chosen are: Heinrich Askenasy, banker; Sholom Asch, novelist; Dr. Samuel Goldflamm, Boris Ettingon, industrialist of Lodz; Rabbi Ezekiel Lipschitz, president of the Rabbis Federation in Poland, and Rabbi Solomon David Kahane of the Warsaw Rabbinate Fourteen alternates were chosen.
A representative of the Polish government, Count Tarnowski, speaking in behalf of the Foreign Office, welcomed the conference, declaring that the Polish government follows with interest the progress of the Jewish National Home in Palestine and wishes the movement success. Felix M. Warburg, Sir Herbert Samuel, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, Lord Melchett and D’Avigdor Goldsmid, president of the Board of Jewish Deputies of London. The conference sent its felicitations to the Polish president, Mosicki, to Marshal Pilsudski, the Prime Minister and to the Speakers of the Sejm and the Senate.
Col. Frederick H. Kisch of the Jerusalem Zionist Executive and Rabbi Leo M. Baeck, leader of the B’nai Brith in Germany came to Warsaw to address the conference. Col. Kisch reported on the tasks of the Jewish Agency and extended greetings to the people of Poland and to the Jews of Poland in behalf of the Jews of Palestine. Dr. Baeck was accorded a long ovation when he concluded his address pointing out the duty of the Jewish people in the reconstruction of Palestine. The conference was headed by a praesidium of three consisting of Dr. Goldflamm, Attorney Warmann, president of the Kehillah of Lublin, and Maurycy Meisel, vice-president of the Warsaw City government.
Dr. Goldflamm stated in his opening address that the conference marks a great historic moment, when Jewish forces are uniting for the rebuilding of Palestine. At the close of the proceedings a banquer was given in honor of the guests, Rabbi Baeck and Col. Kisch. Rabbi Schor of the Warsaw Great Synagogue and Mr. Meisel were the principal speakers.
