Laudatory messages paying tribute to Adolph Lewisohn at an eighty-fifth birthday celebration were received at the Hotel Lafayette. The affair was held under the auspices of the City College Club. The custom of celebrating Mr. Lewisohn’s anniversary was initiated about fifteen years ago.
“He made the City and State of New York, as well as the nation, his debtors,” declared Dr. Joseph J. Klein, member of the Board of Higher Education. “All good citizens rejoice in his splendid health, modern viewpoint, civic contributions.”
Dr. Klein read excerpts from messages received from Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins, Governor Herbert H. Lehman, Secretary of Commerce Daniel C. Roper, President Roosevelt, Nicholas Murray Butler, president of Columbia University, and others.
Supreme Court Justice Peter Schmuck, president of City College Club, acted as toastmaster. Jacob Holman was in charge of arrangements.
