A violent attack against General Hugh S. Johnson, NRA administrator who severely criticized the Hitler purge of June 30, has been launched by the German press.
The keynote of the attacks is the accusation that General Johnson spoke as he did because of his “intimate relationship with the Jews.” All of them, including Johnson himself, are described in the press as “villains and scoundrels.”
The campaign is led by Alfred Hugenberg’s Allgemeine Deutsche Zeitung which expresses the hope that Johnson’s removal will shortly be brought about.
Even the Voelkischer Beobachter, Hitler’s own newspaper, has launched an attack against what it terms a “Judaized United States.” Today’s issue features a cartoon in five sections under the English caption “United States History.”
The first section shows an Indian standing on the coast of America. In the second Uncle Sam is shown hurling him into the sea. The third shows Uncle Sam standing alone on the American coast. In the fourth Uncle Sam is toppled into the sea by an Eastern Jew and in the fifth section a Jew is pictured in sole possession of America’s coast.
The cartoon is credited as copyrighted by the Life Fun Company, 1909, and transferred to the Pastime Novelty Company, 1919.
