The number of students in vocational schools maintained by ORT for displaced Jews in Germany, Austria and Italy is gradually declining as a result of increased emigration from the DP camps to Israel and the United States, it was revealed today in a report on ORT activities for the first ten months of this year, made public by George Beaker, president of the organization.

At the same time, the report revealed an increase in enrollment in ORT schools in Rumania, France, French North Africa and Belgium and noted the first steps taken toward the establishment of ORT schools in Israel to accommodate the influx of new settlers from the DP camps of Germany and Italy.

The sharpest decline occurred during the month of October when students numbered nine percent less than in the preceding month. The report said that further declines are expected in the DP camps as the emigration program continues, but that there will be increasing enrollment in Israel, France and some of the East European countries.

Total enrollment in ORT schools throughout the world at the and of October was 20,404, the report disclosed, while at least 35,000 students were in training at one time or another during the course of the year. Some 10,000 completed at DP their courses and were graduated while others had their training interrupted at DP camps because of migration opportunities.
