A number of Jewish scientists and social scientists were among the 158 American scholars and creative workers to receive grants totalling $500,000 in the list of awards announced here today by the Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Publication of this list marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the awards by the late Sen. Simon Guggenheim, noted Jewish American mining magnate and statesman, and his wife.
Among the Jews who received fellowships were: Dr. Samuel J. Konefsky, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Brooklyn College; Samuel Lubell, writer; Harold R. Isaacs, journalist; Dr. David M, Soffer, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Smith College; Dr. Irving Goodman, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Southern California; Dr. Herbert Frisdmann, Curator, Division of Birds, U.S. National Museum at Washington, D.C.; Dr. Samuel Eilenberg, Professor of Mathematics at Princeton University; and, Milton Goldstein, artist.
