There are only 10,000 Jews living in Vienna today, as compared with 12,500 who were registered here a year ago, it was reported today. Emigration is not the only factor contributing to the decline in the size of the Jewish community here, for, as in Berlin, many Jews have abandoned their faith, it is reported.

The East German news agency has reported that work has begun on the construction of the Erfurt synagogue, for which the East German Government made an initial grant of 300,000 Deutschemarks. The new house of worship will occupy the site of the former Erfurt temple and will accommodate 250 of Thuringia’s 4,000 remaining Jews, according to reports reaching here.
