The Numerus Clausus limiting the number of Jewish students in the Hungarian universities and high-schools will not be repealed until the lost provinces are restored to Hungary, the Hungarian Minister of Education, Count Klebelsberg, declared today in Parliament, in reply to the question of Deputy Lendvai. In connection with the anti-Jewish disturbances at the University of Fuenfkirchen, the Deputy had asked whether the Numerus Clausus was still in force.

The Numerus Clausus in Hungary applies only to the universities and high-schools, and not to the elementary schools. In the latter schools, there is no official restriction on the number of Jews admitted, but there is in practice a special examination for Jewish pupils which serves to disqualify a majority of them.

Deputy Mesko, a Christian Liberal, introduced a motion to abolish these discriminatory examinations, which, it is believed, will be passed.
