The Journal of Israel Numismatics announced today that it is sponsoring an Israel Independence Day medal that will link the cities of Tel Aviv and Philadelphia, the respective birthplaces of Israel’s and United States’ independence.
According to Fred Bertram, journal editor, the medal will be minted at the Franklin Mint in Philadelphia. Special gold specimens will be struck for presentation to the mayors of Tel Aviv and Philadelphia on Israel’s 21st Independence Day, April 23. Silver and bronze specimens will be available in limited numbers to collectors, he said. The medal will bear a representation of Independence Hall on one side and Tel Aviv’s municipal seal on the other. The combined municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa marks its 60th anniversary this year.
