Municipal officials were considering going on strike in the southern Israeli town of Ofakim in an attempt to raise awareness of the fact that the town has the highest unemployment rate in the country.
The town’s unemployment rate now stands at 20 percent.
Schools and businesses were closed as hundreds of residents joined laid off workers in demonstrations Thursday at the entrance to the town.
