A statement paying tribute to the leadership of Louis E. Kirstein of Boston, honorary chairman of the United Jewish Appeal who died last Thursday, was issued today by William Rosenwald, Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver and Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, national chairmen of that organization. Mr.Kirstein served as honorary chairman of the U.J.A. since its establishment in 1939. He was also chairman of its allocations committee in 1939.
The statement on behalf of the officers of the United Jewish Appeal, reads: “With profound sorrow the officers of the United Jewish Appeal for Refugees, Overseas Needs and Palestine mourn the death of Louis E. Kirstein, one of its Honorary Chairmen. Mr. Kirstein’s leadership and service for the welfare of the Jewish people as well as for all peoples of all races and creeds at home and abroad have been an inspiration and a great contribution to the causes of humanity and democracy.”
