Disappointment was expressed in official circles today over the failure of the International Federation of Airline Pilots Associations to implement its threat of a world wide 24 hour pilots’ strike in the case of two Israeli passengers who have been detained in Syria since their TWA airliner was hijacked by Arab commandos Aug. 29. The IFALPA strike threat was made last month to spur international action against aerial hijacking and to secure the release of the two Israelis.
So far IFALPA and several other international organizations have announced that they would act to end the rash of hijackings. But neither the pilots, the various civil aviation organizations nor the United States Government has made any headway so far with Syrian authorities who are holding the Israelis.
(The recent appeal to the world academic community by the Hebrew University senate to support action on behalf of Israelis in Syria was supported today by the academic council of the American Friends of the Hebrew University.)
