The House of Representatives is expected to vote next week on a home-rule fair employment practices bill which would set up county boards to enforce fair employment practices. The bill cleared the House Industry and Labor Committee this week by the narrow margin of eight to seven.
Seven Republican legislators opposed the bill in committee. Two other FEPC bills were shelved by the committee which voted to postpone their consideration indefinitely. Adoption of FEP legislation was pledged by the Republicans during the last election campaign and the Cleveland News this week warned the Party is leaders that “there must be no retreat from that pledge now.”
