A team of Israeli investigators was scheduled to leave for the United States to complete its probe of the Talansky affair.
Jerusalem District Attorney Eli Abarbanel and two investigators from the National Fraud Investigation Unit were to leave Israel on Sunday for a 10-day visit, the daily Ha’aretz reported.
Abarbanel was scheduled to meet with representatives of the FBI to press them to agree to give Morris Talansky, the key witness in the case against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, immunity from prosecution in the United States on charges including money laundering and tax evasion.
The investigators also were scheduled to look into another alleged Olmert fraud, with plans to question the head of an organization that invited Olmert to speak at a fund-raising event. Olmert is alleged to have received airfare from multiple organizations to fund family vacations.
