Israeli troops fatally shot one Arab and wounded two others in a battle with rioting inmates of the Ansar detention camp in south Lebanon today. Two Israeli soldiers were slightly injured by rocks. The army said the troops opened fire when the riot seemed to be getting out of hand. It is investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, two Katyusha rocket launchers used to fire shells into western Galilee last night were discovered in Lebanon today about 10 kilometers north of the Israeli border. The rockets caused slight damage but no casualties. The launchers were found in the area of south Lebanon patroled by the Fijian unit of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the army said.
In Beirut, the death toll rose to six in the blast that partially wrecked the Summerland Hotel yesterday. Fifteen persons were injured. Other bodies are believed buried in the ruins. The blast was caused by about 100 kilos of high explosives in a car in the hotel’s underground garage.
