One of Israel’s most respected and controversial playwrights died Wednesday in Tel Aviv. Hanoch Levin succumbed to cancer at the age of 56. Levin often sparked national furors during his more than 30-year career, but he won the 1998 Israeli Theater Award for playwright of the year.
