Only 1,000 immigration certificates for Jews remin under the White Paper quota, it was disclosed today by Eliahu Dobkin, chief of the immigration department of the Jewish Agency, commenting on the allotment of 3,000 certificates this week by the Palestine Government.
Dobkin desoribed the allocation of only 3,000 visas as “miserable and insulting in light of the tremendous need and the demand for certificates. In every corner of Europe,” he said, “people released from concentration camps by the tens of thousands, who can find no rest or peace, wish to emigrate to Palestine, which is ready to absorb them.”
It was announced today that a plenary session of the Jewish National Council will be held on June 5 to discuss the present crisis within that body. The Aliya Medasha and the Poale-Mizrachi are not participating in the deliberation of the council and the Mirzachi is on the eve of leaving.
