An eyewitness arriving here today from the Nazi-occupied city of Sniatyn, Galicia, stated that only 17 Jews have been left alive by the Nazis in that city. There were 3,500 Jews in Sniatyn when the German army occupied it, he said. The seventeen Jews are all qualified artisans needed by German industries.

The same person reported that in Lwow, capital of Eastern Galicia, only 5,000 Jews are left. All others are dead, he said. There were more than 75,000 Jews in Lwow before the outbreak of the war. Many thousands of Jews escaped from Nazi-occupied Polish cities to Lwow in 1939 when this city was in the hands of the Russian Army, but thousands were deported by the Russian authorities from Lwow to distant parts of Russia prior to the entrance of the German armies into the city.
