Only one Jew has emigrated to Israel from Czechoslovakia since 1956, according to a statement made in Cairo by the Czech Ambassador in the United Arab Republic. Word of this Czech “assurance” to the U.A.R. was received here today from Cairo where the Ambassador gave an interview on the subject to the Egyptian newspaper A1 Shaab.
Meanwhile, reports were received here from Vienna stating that 27 Jews are now serving prison sentences in Czechoslovakia, on charges of “Zionist activities.” They have been sent to the Czech uranium mines at Joachmistal, one report said.
