Open Warfare Brews Between Hitler Leaders

The London Daily Herald today published a report from its Berlin correspondent stating that a long smoldering rivalry between General Goering, Premier of Prussia, and Herr Heinrich Himmler, Hitler’s leader of the “Black Guards” and controller of the Reich Secret Police, is on the verge of flaming into open war.

“Himmler,” the correspondent writes, “has for months past been one of the powers behind the scenes with the result that General Goering has become bitterly jealous.”

“Now the row between the two is at its peak following an allegation by General Goering that for weeks past the Secret Police—”Gestapo”—have shadowed him wherever he went.

Himmler’s answer to the charge was that he was responsible for the General’s safety, but this did not satisfy the vain-glorious Prussian.

“It is understood that the Secret Police, who have watched Goering, have been reporting fully to their own chief full details of the General’s financial affairs and also all available information regarding his women friends.

When the General was injured in a car smash recently there was a woman with him, although her name was kept a close secret from Germany.

“The girl was Fraulein von Shirach, the German opera star and sister of Baldur von Shirach, leader of the Hitler Youth Movement.

“The General has been out with her many times since then, and each outing has been the subject of a “Gestapo” report.

“The Secret Police have also recorded all meeting between Goering and Emmy Sonnemann, one of the leading actresses at the Berlin State Theatre.

“General Goering’s financial affairs have always been something of a mystery.

“It is known he maintains a veritable palace in Berlin, three villas and a country house.”
