Lotte Lehmann, German grand opera star now appearing here, declared last night that under no conditions would she return to Germany.
“Never will I enter a country which expelled such a great musician as Bruno Walter,” she stated.
“I deeply hope that the expulsion of some of the best artists from Germany will awaken the intelligent portion of the population to realize what is happening,” Miss Lehmann said. She made light of her personal quarrel with Prussian Premier Hermann Wilhelm Goering, declaring it had no influence on her decision.
